
The SMART patrol training under “Law Enforcement Strengthening System for Wildlife Sanctuary and Non-hunting Area” has been organized by Wildlife Conservation Office, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. This first training was held during May 5-11, 2016 aiming to enhance patrol rangers’ competency by refreshing patrol techniques. There are 29 rangers from 7 protected areas such as Khao Khieo-Khao Chompoo Wildlife Sanctuary, Doi Luang Wildlife Sanctuary, Kaeng Khoi Non-hunting Area, Tham Pha Nam Thip Non-hunting Area etc.
The WCS staff were invited to be the lecturers for the topics that necessary for the patrol such as skills in GPS, map, compass and patrol data form usage. While the trainers who are patrol technique experts from the Border Patrol Police Bureau refreshing patrol techniques, arrest and weapon use.
Overall, patrol rangers showed their willingness to practice which can be evaluated from their test results. They are able to use compass, map, GPS and record data forms correctly.
