Patrol has proven to be important for protecting natural resources in wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. A patrol database used for effective patrol planning, called SMART, was developed in 2014 and is presently continuing development. In 2016, the SMART Patrol Application was developed for patrol data collection which records with patrol data forms. Thus, applying and integrating new technology from various fields is required in order to get quick, accurate and real-time information for particular situations.
Training of SMART Patrol Application on GPS for Smart Patrol arranged by WCS Thailand Program and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation during June 3-5, 2016 at Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary (HKK), Uthai Thani Province. The aims are to improve patrol data form records by using the SMART Patrol Application via GPS Garmin Monterra and to demonstrate how to apply for patrol activity. There are 44 HKK patrol rangers and 5 observers from CATSPA project, Thungyai Naresuan East and West Wildlife Sanctuaries participated in this training.
Overall, participants have learned and gained insight into the SMART Patrol Application for patrol data record via GPS Garmin Monterra. Additionally, participants will be able to disseminate information to their colleagues.
Each
participant registered and received training materials. Mr. Sompoch Maneerat, the
