Forestry officers together with officers from 4th Infantry Regiment Task Force arrested two suspects, Nipon Suksombot and Luethai Diawcharoen, drove a car rapidly on Mae Sot – Tak highway last night. Fresh meat, tiger skin and other parts were found at over 100 kg packed in two boxes hidden at the back seat.
The first box contained only tiger meat while the other contained tiger head, skin and other organs, not to mention a big bag full of tiger bones. The cause of death is predicted to be a gunshot as evident from the wound on upper thigh of the skin.
Nipon and Luethai were confined and will be further investigated. Mr. Nipon said that they were hired at the cost of 3,000 baht and received tiger carcass from an illegal wildlife trader at Mae Sot market and were in the middle of transferring them to an exotic restaurant in Bangkok. However, authorities doubted that some high authorities might be behind the scene. Location where the tiger was killed is now under investigation.
