The Strengthening of Law
Enforcement System (Smart Patrol) in Thungyai Naresuan West Wildlife Sanctuary
(TYW) was held during March 5-11, 2015. The aim of training is to improve capacity
of 35 TYW rangers by refreshing their skills in GPS, map, compass and patrol
data form usage, along with refreshing patrol techniques, arrest and weapon use
in order to maintain and strengthen their patrol performance for wildlife
conservation. The training was supported by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
Thailand and trainers who are patrol technique experts from the Special
Operation Division – Crime Investigation Center of Provincial Police Region 3,
the Special Training Division 2 and the Special Training Division 6 – Border
Patrol Police Bureau.
Overall, most of rangers have learnt and gained more understanding
in patrol techniques, arrest and weapon use. In addition, they passed an individual
test of map reading, data form record, compass and GPS using. However, some
rangers couldn’t improve their skills as effectively due to their inability to
read and/or write Thai language.
Field gears from WCS
such as waterproof bags, camping cooking pots, picnic pot sets, portable gas
cartridges, hammocks and flysheets are provided at registration.
