During 9-11 February 2015, WCS co-organized a patrol training with Kaeng Krachan National Park (KKNP) to improve capacities of KKNP rangers in order to maintain and maximize their patrol performance. This is a small and brief training for 20 rangers who regularly carry GPS and also are in charge of field patrol record. The aim of the training is specifically set to refresh rangers’ skills in GPS and patrol data form usage.
WCS had led the course for the first two days, starting from map reading and GPS (Garmin Map 60CSx and 62s) use on the first day and then followed by patrol data collection on the second day. On the last day, the class was about forestry law led by the senior contracted staff who has been inspecting all legal cases in the park. Each ranger passed an individual test of map reading, becoming well familiar with one GPS (Garmin Map 60CSx) and able to use newly introduced GPS model (Garmin Map 62s). Most of them paid enthusiastic response to questions in the class of forestry law and successfully practiced on the legal case writing. This training has been another part that fulfills the Smart Patrol System in KKNP.
